India's Chandrayaan-2 mission suffered a setback early Saturday when ISRO lost contact with the lander Vikram just two kilometers before the lunar surface. With this, suspense has been laid on the future of Chandrayaan-2 mission costing Rs 978 crore. Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) President K.K. Sivan announced that the lander's work was as per planning up to 2.1 km before the lunar surface. He said that he lost contact after that.

At around 1.38 am on Saturday, when the 1,471 kg Vikram Moon started moving towards the surface at a speed of 1,680 meters per second from a height of 30 km, everything was fine. ISRO said in an official statement, 'This is the Mission Control Center. Vikram Lander was landing and his work was normal till 2.1 km before the target. After that the lander lost contact with the center on the ground. The data is being analyzed.

On the screens of ISRO's Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network Center, it was seen that Vikram was a bit out of his way and then lost contact. The lander was coming down very comfortably and ISRO officials were showing happiness in between. The lander successfully completed its rough breaking phase and it was moving towards the surface with good speed. According to an ISRO scientist, the control of the lander must have ended when its thrusters were shut down while descending. However, not all of the Chandrayaan-2 mission costing Rs 978 crore has ended.

Prime Minister Modi himself was present at ISRO's Bengaluru center to see this historic moment. He was accompanied by 60-70 school children who got a chance to watch the live telecast through a quiz competition. Vikram Lander's orbit is 35 kilometers by 101 kilometers. While ISRO officials have a sense of sadness, Prime Minister Narendra Modi consoles them, saying, "When the mission is big, one should dare to overcome despair." I congratulate all of you. You have done great service to the country and mankind.
